At night the beaches of some islands of the Maldives archipelago burst with millions of luminous neon points, as if the starry sky falls on the shore of the Indian Ocean. This surrealistic picture does not appear with the help of magic, but as a result of the vital activity of microscopic organisms called bioluminescent phytoplankton.
