Darvaz Cave

Darvaz is a burning cave in Turkmenistan. Imagine there is a desert around and suddenly among the sands there is a flaming crater. A real entrance to the underworld! Local residents call this place "The Gates of Hell". Here, in the heart of the famous Karakum Desert, there is a hot crater with a diameter of 60 meters and 20 meters deep. The gas in the well goes straight out of the ground, dividing into many torches. Individual flames reach 10 -15 meters high.
In 1971 geologists in Turkmenistan (Darvaza) drilled a well for gas production and stumbled upon an underground cavern. The rig with all the equipment and transport fell under the ground. Fortunately, people did not suffer. From the man-made crater natural gas appeared. People burnt this gas not to be poisoned. And since that time, you can see many burning torches that scare tourists and nomads. Nobody knows how many billions of cubic meters of valuable natural raw materials have burnt during the entire existence of the "gas well".
